Sophia Broke is a London based artist specialising in oil painting. She studied fine art at the Heatherley's School of Art and appeared on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the year (2021). Her use of bold colour and expressive brush marks capture light, atmosphere and a sense of real time. Her paintings are a direct response to the 'seen' landscape and reinterpret the experience into a unique visual language. Often bright and powerful, her largescale landscapes focus on colour, shape and tone to express the natural environment. Her direct observation of real life subject matter informs her work and helps push it further into an imagined painting. She is inspired by nature and enjoys painting en plein air. She works from life and produces still life, landscape and portrait paintings.
